Magnet fishing is a cool hobby in the sense that you never know what you will find next. The only clue you have is that the item will be a ferrous metal! Apart from that you have no idea what your next magnet fishing finds will be. In this blog post we will have a look through some of the stuff you can expect to find in our river, canals and lakes. Here at Magnet Fishing Pro we love to see your best finds. If you have any to share please drop a message in the comments section or by the contact form.
What is the best magnet fishing find?
Well there are so many finds to be made when magnet fishing, it is a hard choice but if I had to make it I would say.
What is the best magnet fishing find? If you ask most people who go magnet fishing what the best find is they will tell you that it is either. Cash boxes and safes or old and discarded weapons and I must admit I agree. There is nothing more exciting than watching these finds come up from the water.
So now let’s have a look at what other finds you can expect to make when you go magnet fishing.
Magnet fishing finds, what can you expect?
I just though it would be a good idea to put a list of expected magnet fishing finds together. This way if you are new to the hobby you can see what your getting yourself into. The first list will have much more common items and the second list will have some rarer items.
Common magnet fishing finds.
These are the items you can expect to find on your typical run of the mill day.
- Nuts, bolts and screws.
- Cutlery. (Non stainless steel)
- Modern iron core coins.
- Lots of random scraps of iron from angle to pipes.
- Barber wire seems quite common.
- Fishing hooks and lures.
- Old tools are often found.
There are plenty more common finds that you will come across as this list is not exhaustive.
The best magnet fishing finds.
This next list features some of the Holy Grail of magnet fishing finds. These are the finds anyone who takes part in magnetic fishing loves to find!
- Large knives such as Rambo/hunting knives.
- Old guns and weapons.
- Bombs and grenades ( be very careful!).
- Bicycles and mopeds sometimes come out the water.
- Cash boxes and safes are one of the best finds. Especially when stuffed with money or jewellery!

Again there are many more cool bits and pieces that you can find. You will be shocked at the amount of metal items that have been lost or disposed of in our waterways. Many of the finds can be rubbish but there are so many benefits of this hobby. We help to clear our rivers, canals and lakes whilst also getting excited about what the next find is going to be.
